Special Edition: InTouch Newsletter Print

President's Report

Happy Holidays!  We are doing a special edition of the newsletter to introduce our new brand for the Nebraska Chapter of the APTA!   APTA will be launching its new brand in the summer of 2020.  As an early adaptor of the new brand, the Nebraska Chapter is a forerunner in embracing APTA’s strategic objective to embody the APTA mission and vision through an integrated brand strategy.  By unifying our association branding with the APTA, we will create clarity for our members and potential members.  It will be easier to recognize APTA’s collective offerings and value. As a member for over 40 years, I know my membership is more expensive than previous years, but the amount of services and value I get out of my membership far exceeds the cost.

Rebranding is more than a new look or logo.  I have experienced re-branding multiple times in my career at my work place and professional associations.  I was a therapy director when we went from calling ourselves a hospital to a medical center at Bergan Mercy.  I was on the board when Health Policy and Administration Section of the APTA rebranded to HPA The Catalyst to more effectively align the section values with our name.  Both times it helped to refocus the what and the why of us!  The new brand of our chapter will encourage us to act for impact, better leveraging our state-level expertise on behalf of members and potential members.

The physical therapy profession is evolving and so are we!  Our new brand represents an investment in the future to maximize our impact.  We are sending a message that symbolizes our unity and ability to work together for the benefit of the profession and the public it serves.  Always remember, we are BETTER TOGETHER!

Today, we’re offering a first look at the new APTA Nebraska Chapter logo! Watch for our chapter’s new name, logo, website and overall visual look and feel leading up to the Annual Conference April 17-28, 2020.

Lastly, it is time now to consider running for a leadership position within our association.  We the call for candidates is open for President, Secretary, Nominating committee and Eastern District Chairperson.   Also, award nominations are open. We have so many deserving members in our association that we can nominate – let them know what you appreciated their expertise, their time to the association, as well as the impact they have had on their patients and the profession. There are more details in the newsletter and watch for an email below.

Sincerely yours,

Grace Knott PT

Foundation News

Nebraska Methodist Col-lege PTA students nomi-nate their Clinical In-structors to receive the Clinical Instructor of the Year award. This year’s winner is Barb Fye, PTA at Methodist Physicians Clinic Physical Therapy. The students who nomi-nated Barb commended her clinical skills, teach-ing skills and dedication to both patients and stu-dents. One student ex-pressed a common theme that Barb, “took time early in the rotation to make me feel comfortable, taught me techniques to give me the best start to my rotation, and used down time to teach me other techniques I would not experience in that setting, and advanced techniques I could start implementing with my patients.” Another student summed up that Barb served as an “excellent role model for all...and truly deserves (this award) for all the time she takes out of her personal life to teach oth-ers how to provide the best care for patients.” Congratulations, Barb! Thank you for all you do!

We had a Panda Express Fundraiser and bake sale to raise money to help our fel-low classmates purchase the Board Exam preparation book. Three PTA students attended the Midwest Student Conclave in Kansas City. The conclave included speakers on Blood Flow Restriction, Con-cussion Management in Phys-ical Therapy, Current Legisla-tive Topics, and Pediatric Adaptive Sports Medicine. All three of us found this con-clave beneficial, and we got to make connections with other fellow PT and PTA students from Kansas. Cassandra Choquette, President, NMC PTA Student Association.

The next PTA Advisory Board meeting is scheduled for Friday, January 24 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at NMC. All are welcome. RSVP to Shannon by January 17th.

Thank you,

Continuing Education Committee

Did you know the NPTA has a new program that has made getting educational presentations preapproved for CEUs in Nebraska faster and easier?  CEU locker launched in August! The platform streamlines the application process for requesting and preapproval of continuing education units.

What you may not yet know, is that the platform is also a place where you can save and store your continuing education certificates!  It is so easy to log the courses you’ve attended. You can even access CEU locker on your smart phone via a web browser, take a photo of the course completion certificate and save all you CEU information in one place!

CEU Providers and CEU Holders must have different logins, so if you host and attend CEUs, just be prepared to create two accounts.  Use a personal email as a holder and a business email as a provider  to make it easier to manage, for example.

CEU Providers need to ensure specific information is uploaded in order to make the preapproval process as smooth as possible. There is a reference sheet on the CEU locker payment page, but it can be easy to miss. herefore, this reference sheet is also on the NPTA webpage for your information.

Something new to the CEU locker process is that course completion certificates are no longer generated for you. However, now you can make the certificate individualized and include your organization’s logo, but you should still have some specific elements on the certificate. And once your course is preapproved through CEU locker, you should add the approval seal to the certificate. We have created a certificate template for your convenience and added it to the NPTA webpage.

The reference sheet and certificate template can be located at: https://npta.org/CEUapproval.

Happy learning and let us know if we can be of any assistance.

Kelly Nelson and Raegan Muller, Co-Chairs, Continuing Education Committee
